Catholic Charities of Tulsa

Parishioners from the Parish of Christ the King cooperate with Catholic Charities of Tulsa to serve those in need in our community through Catholic Charities' many programs.

The mission of Catholic Charities is to be Christ’s merciful love to those who suffer.

In fulfillment of our Lord’s desire to feed the hungry, the Parish of Christ the King invites parishioners to bring food donations weekly to the Church. Collection bins are located in the entrance of the church (vestibule). Each week these food items are sent to Catholic Charities to be distributed to those in need. This is an ongoing project throughout the year.

Ever thought about giving back to the community? Ever thought about volunteering at Catholic Charities? If you would like to join the more than 2,600 people who help us carry out our mission “to be Christ’s merciful love to those who suffer,” now is a good time to start. As client needs increase and program capacities are stretched, your time, energy and talents can help us reach further out into the community. Here are a few ideas you might explore, as well as some of the most urgent needs at this time include (but opportunities are not limited to just these):

Receptionist – Catholic Charities Main Reception Desk or Program Reception Desks
Responsibilities include greeting guests and directing them to programs and offices, answering the phone, and light office duties. Hours available on weekdays 8:30 AM-4:30 PM; hours to be scheduled according to your availability and our scheduling needs in coordination with other volunteers’ availability.

Support Services Volunteers
Our Supports Services program includes the Food Pantry, Clothing Center, Donation Center and Warehouse. These programs are totally volunteer-driven and could not support the needs of our clients without numerous volunteers.  We serve an average of 75 families a day with groceries, clothing, small household items and personal items. Volunteer duties include receiving and sorting donations, folding hanging and displaying clothing, stocking grocery shelves, filling food orders, assisting clients with their orders and being the hands of Christ to those we serve. We need helpers anytime Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday evenings from 4:30 to 7:30 PM, and/or the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM to noon.

Natural Family Planning Assistant
As the NFP program continues to grow at Catholic Charities, so do the volunteer needs. If you have clerical/administrative skills, want to be involved in a pro-life program that touches so many lives, and want to have a direct impact on the many people we serve, perhaps this is the program for you.

Horticulture/Landscaping/Gardening Consulting/Support
Catholic Charities’ new campus is a beautiful and welcoming facility that offers dignity and peace to those we serve. It also means we need the “hands of Christ” to help keep the flowers, plants and green spaces looking presentable. We have also started a fruit, vegetable, spice and herb garden to support our kitchen and food pantry. If you have a green thumb, and/or know the difference between a weed and a flower, we could use your help. Many volunteer groups and Boy Scouts (for their Eagle projects) have helped us develop the landscape plan donated by an landscape architect. Maintenance of these spaces is an ongoing and necessary part of the volunteer needs at Catholic Charities. Can you help?

Rural Outreach Program
Assistance is provided to numerous rural parishes in eastern Oklahoma through grocery supplies or financial aid. Catholic Charities’ Helping Center in Sallisaw provides groceries, clothing and referral services Monday through Friday. St. Jude Helping Center in McAlester also provides groceries, referral services and case management on Fridays and Saturdays. Both of these locations are in need of volunteers during their open hours.
